Week 8 (November 2, 2020)

It is hard to believe that this semester is half over already!  In reviewing the tags for this blog, we have covered a lot of ground, and I know that's just the tip of the iceberg.  This week we studied "Overcoming Challenges."  It is a good thing to think ahead and have alternate plans in place for when you do face challenges.

The challenge I anticipate the most is having clients consistently.  If I do not have clientele, I am not making money...therein lies challenge #2.  Of course, to attract clients I will need money to advertise.  This week really made me think about ways to advertise that are not as costly, how word of mouth is possibly the strongest way to market, and how many client hours I would need weekly to maintain my cost of living.

Our study material was very helpful with regard to considering these challenges.  A talk by Elder Jeffrey Holland and his wife Sister Patricia Holland, "However Long and Hard the Road," was particularly inspiring.  It was about how the Salt Lake City temple was built...over 40 years!  The amount of back-breaking work the Saints put into this feat is awe-inspiring.  They literally moved a mountain!  And it was their strong faith that kept them going all those years.  When I find myself facing a challenge, I will think of those Saints and how their faith kept them going.

Also, we learned about "The 5 Whys" from speaker Eric Ries.  When we endure a challenge or something just does not go right, we must ask 'why'.  After asking 'why', analyze the answer at which you arrive.  Think, and then think some more.  Ask 'why' multiple times until you get to the root cause of the challenge.  At that point, attempt to fix or repair or go in another direction.

Keep your faith strong and keep asking 'why' to beat your challenges and be successful.
